Slovakia’s foreign trade surplus declined in April from the previous month to a four-month low, figures from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Monday.

The foreign trade surplus declined to EUR 352.4 million in April from EUR 479.0 million in March. In April 2014, the surplus was EUR 328.1 million. It was the smallest surplus since January, after a deficit in December.

Exports increased 1 percent year-on-year in April, after a 9.3 percent growth in the previous month. Shipments rose for a third straight month.

Imports also grew for the third month running, rising 0.6 percent in April, but slower than the previous month’s 7.4 percent increase.

In the first four-month period, trade surplus grew to EUR 1.71 billion from EUR 1.64 billion in the previous year period. Total export of goods increased by 2.4 percent and imports rose by 2.3 percent.
