South Korea’s unemployment rate held steady in December, figures from Statistics Korea showed Wednesday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 3.4 percent in December, the same rate as in the preceding month.

In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 3.5 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the unemployment rate rose marginally to 3.2 percent in December from 3.1 percent in November.

The number of unemployed people climbed to 868,000 in December from 829,000 in the prior month. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 886,000.
