South Korea’s money supply grew at a faster pace in May, preliminary figures from the Bank of Korea showed Wednesday.

The M2, a broad measure of money supply, increased 9.3 percent year-on-year in May following the 9.0 percent rise in the previous month. In March, it advanced 8.3 percent.

The M1, or narrow money supply, grew at a quicker rate of 18.9 percent than April’s 17.7 percent.

The growth in liquidity of financial institutions aggregate Lf indicator quickened to 10.3 percent from 10.0 percent, and that of liquidity L indicator accelerated to 9.5 percent from 9.3 percent.

Month-on-month, M2 growth remained unchanged at 1.0 percent, while the M1 growth eased to 1.9 percent from 2.6 percent.
