Spanish industrial production growth slowed sharply for a second straight month in January, preliminary data from the statistical office INE showed Tuesday.

The industrial production index rose an unadjusted 0.7 percent year-on-year following 3.5 percent growth in December, revised from 3.7 percent. Economists had forecast 3.7 percent growth.

After seasonal and working-day adjustments, production grew 3.5 percent annually after a 4.1 percent increase in the previous month.

Energy output declined 7.5 percent, while capital goods production grew 9.3 percent. Output rose 5.2 percent for intermediate goods and 4.3 percent for non-durable consumer goods. Durables production decreased 0.2 percent.

Compared to the previous month, industrial production dropped 0.1 percent.
