Spain consumer prices remained flat in December after falling for four straight months, final data from the statistical office INE showed Friday.

Consumer prices had decreased 0.3 percent year-on-year in November and 0.7 percent in October. The December figure came in line with preliminary estimate published on December 30.

Cost of transport declined 2.8 percent and housing by 2.3 percent. Meanwhile, food and non-alcoholic beverages prices climbed 1.8 percent.

Month-on-month, consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent in December as estimated initially.

The harmonized index of consumer prices slid 0.1 percent year-on-year versus a 0.4 percent drop in November. This was the fifth consecutive fall in prices.

On a monthly basis, the index fell 0.4 percent. Both annual and monthly rates matched initial estimate.
