Sweden’s retail sales growth eased at a faster-than-expected pace in December, figures from Statistics Sweden showed Thursday.
Retail sales rose a working-day-adjusted 3.4 percent year-over-year in December, slower than the 5.5 percent gain in the previous month. Economists had expected the growth to ease to 4.6 percent.
Sales of durable goods climbed 3.9 percent in December from a year ago and that for consumables grew by 2.8 percent.
On a monthly basis, retail sales dropped for the first time in four months by a seasonally adjusted 1.5 percent in December, in contrast to a 0.5 percent increase in November. It was expected to remain flat during December.
