Sweden’s merchandise trade surplus increased to a three-year high in June, figures from Statistics Sweden showed Friday.

The trade surplus doubled to SEK 8.4 billion in June from SEK 4.2 billion in the same month of the previous year. This is the highest since June 2012, when the surplus was SEK 8.5 billion.

In May, the surplus totaled SEK 2.4 billion, revised up from SEK 2.3 billion initially reported.

Exports jumped 14 percent annually in June to SEK 108.9 billion, and imports climbed by 10.0 percent to SEK 100.5 billion.

The non-EU trade surplus was SEK 15.3 billion in June, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 6.9 billion.

However, on a seasonally adjusted basis, the trade surplus slightly declined to SEK 4.1 billion from SEK 4.2 billion in the previous month.

For the January to June period, the trade surplus increased to SEK 25.1 billion from SEK 14.4 billion in the same period of last year. Exports grew by 6 percent annually and imports rose by 4 percent.
