Swiss consumer confidence improved less-than-expected in October, survey data from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs showed Thursday.

The consumer confidence index came in at -18 compared to -19 in the July quarter. Economists had expected the index to rise to -17.

The sub-index reflecting household expectations with regard to future economic prospects improved from -25 points in July to -16 points in October. Similarly, the expected unemployment sub-index rose to 74 from 65.

The expected development of the financial situation of domestic households remained unchanged at -4 in October.

Assessments of the price trends over the last twelve months increased to +11 in October from -5 in July. Expectations for future price trends grew markedly in October, with the index rising to +36 from +18.
