Swiss retail sales declined for a third straight month in March, although at a slower pace from the previous month, provisional data from Swiss Federal Statistical Office showed on Monday.

Retail sales dropped an adjusted 2.8 percent year-on-year in March following a 3.1 percent drop in February. In January, sales had declined 1.1 percent.

Excluding fuel, retail sales declined 2.3 percent. Sales of food, beverages and tobacco dropped 2.6 percent and non-food sales decreased 2.3 percent.

However, retail sales rose 0.7 percent month-on-month in March after a 0.9 percent drop in February. In January, sales fell 3.1 percent.

Retail sales, excluding fuel, rose 0.7 percent from the previous month. Non-food sales grew 1.3 percent, while food, beverages and tobacco sales declined 0.8 percent.
