Swiss retail sales dropped in August after rising slightly in the previous month, figures from the Federal Statistical Office showed Thursday.

Retail sales, in real terms, fell a calendar-adjusted 0.3 percent year-over-year in August, in contrast to a 0.1 percent increase in July, which was revised from a 0.1 percent drop reported earlier. In June, sales had fallen 1.2 percent.

Excluding fuel, retail sales grew at a slower pace of 0.6 percent annually in August, following a 0.9 percent rise in the prior month.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco edged down 0.1 percent in August, while sales of non-food products went up by 1.1 percent.

On a monthly basis, retail sales rose 0.5 percent in August, reversing a 0.6 percent drop in July.
