Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for August 12, 2015.
Paramount’s “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” continues to “Cruise” to new heights of global popularity, adding 18 new markets this weekend, earning $94.9 million worldwide with $265.35 million to date. “Rogue Nation” remains the number one movie for the second consecutive weekend in international territories, while Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four’ makes its debut in second place in the global marketplace with $60.3 million.
In North American action, Tom Cruise in Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation” makes it two weeks in a row at the top of the chart with $28.5 million. The well-reviewed audience-favorite, “Rogue Nation,” crossed the $100 million mark on Sunday after just 10 days of release. In the second spot, in its debut is Fox’s latest Marvel release, “Fantastic Four” with $25.7 million. The science fiction adventure stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell.
On this week’s Movies on Demand chart, Fox’s Dreamworks Animation release, “Home” debuts in first place and is followed by Fox’s romantic drama set in the world of professional bull riders, “The Longest Ride.” Sony’s ever-popular “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” drops to third place this week and Fox’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” moves to the fourth spot.
On our digital purchases and rentals chart, Lionsgate’s “Divergent Series: Insurgent” enjoyed a very strong debut by taking the top position. Independent distributor RADiUS-TWC’s movie, “Before We Go,” starring Chris Evans, enters the charts in the tenth spot, while Warner Bros.’ 1983 original “National Lampoon’s Vacation” came in at number sixteen, likely due to Warner’s theatrical release of the reboot of the movie starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate.
On our DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales chart this week, Dreamworks Animation’s family-favorite “Home” takes the top position in its first week, followed by Fox’s romantic drama “The Longest Ride.” Also new to the chart this week is Warner Bros.’ “Justice League: Gods and Monsters” with a strong third place debut.
This week on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals side of the ledger, comedies rule with Will Ferrell in Warner Bros.’ “Get Hard” moving up to the top position followed by “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2,” which moves to second place after a first place finish last week and Fox’s action-packed “Kingsman: The Secret Service” moves into third place.
Moving up to the top spot this week, Univision’s coverage of “Copa de Oro de la CONCACAF 2015″ Gold Cup futbol leads the charge on our broadcast telecasts chart while Telemundo’s “El Señor de los Cielos” drops to second this week and is followed in third place by and Telemundo’s “Caso cerrado – Edicion especial.”
Our top viewer engagement for cable telecasts chart shows TNT’s “Major Crimes” refuses to budge and remains at the top of the chart again this week, followed by TNT’s “Rizzoli & Isles” and VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” in third.
On our combined social media and digital engagement chart for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts, NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” had a special episode thanks to guest judge Michael Bublé. A reminder of the episode on Facebook garnered 23k+ interactions. An Uncensored A cappella skit on YouTube from Comedy Central’s “Key & Peele” was the most-viewed video this week earning 1.7M+ views. Finally, ESPNWS’s “SportsCenter” posted a happy 50th birthday to the late Stuart Scott on Instagram and the post received 151k+ interactions.
