Treasuries turned in a lackluster performance throughout the trading session on Monday before ending the day roughly flat.

Bond prices saw some strength in morning trading but pulled back near the unchanged line in the afternoon. As a result, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, edged down by less than a basis point to 2.197 percent.

The choppy trading came as traders seemed reluctant to make any significant moves amid a lack of major U.S. economic data.

Several key economic reports are due to be released in the coming day, including reports on new and existing home sales, durable goods orders, and personal income and spending.

The lackluster performance by treasuries also came as some traders have remained away from their desks ahead of Christmas.

The bond markets will close early on Christmas Eve on Thursday and remain closed all day on Christmas Day on Friday.

Trading on Tuesday may be impacted by a report on existing home sales as well as the final report on third quarter GDP.
