Turkey’s consumer price inflation accelerated at a faster-than-expected pace in June to the highest level in four months, figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Monday.

The consumer price index rose 7.64 percent year-over-year in June, faster than May’s 6.58 percent climb. Economists had expected the inflation to increase slightly to 7.0 percent.

The latest rate of rise was the fastest since February, when prices had grown 8.78 percent.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages went up 6.63 percent annually in June and clothing and footwear prices surged by 7.31 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 0.47 percent in June after a 0.58 percent spike in the prior month. It was the third month of increase in a row.

The statistical office also announced that producer price inflation quickened to 3.41 percent in June from 3.25 percent a month ago. Month-on-month, producer prices inched up 0.41 percent in June.
