Turkey’s foreign trade deficit increased in March from a year ago, as exports fell faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Thursday.
The trade deficit widened to $6.15 billion in March from $5.25 billion in the same month of the previous year. Economists had expected a $6.2 billion shortfall for the month.
Exports plunged 14.4 percent annually in March and imports declined by 6.1 percent.
Seasonally and calender adjusted exports slid 5.6 percent monthly in March and imports slipped by 3.5 percent.
