U.K. construction output dropped in January due to a decline in all new work, the Office for National Statistics said Friday.
Construction output decreased 0.2 percent in January from December as expected by economists. All new work dropped 0.8 percent, while all repair and maintenance increased 0.8 percent.
On a yearly basis, construction output fell 0.8 percent in January but slower than an expected 1.7 percent decline. There were decreases in both all new work and repair and maintenance of 0.4 percent and 1.4 percent respectively.
The ONS said the second estimate of gross domestic product for the fourth quarter published on February 25 included an estimate of construction which showed a decrease in output of 0.4 percent.
This estimate has been revised upwards by 0.7 percentage points to an increase of 0.3 percent in this release. This has no impact on GDP to 1 decimal place, the ONS said.
