U.S. consumer sentiment fell in September compared to the previous month, according to a survey released Friday
The University of Michigan’s final September reading on the overall index on consumer sentiment came in at 87.2, down from 91.9 in August.
Consumers are in a better mood compared to the same time a year ago. In September 2014, the index came in at 84.6.
“While the September Sentiment Index was at the lowest level in eleven months, it was still higher than in any prior month since May 2007,” U of M said.
Consumers are getting a bit anxious about the state of the global economy and the possible negative impact on the domestic situation.
Because of widely publicized problems in China and Europe, “consumers now believe that global economic trends can directly influence their own job and wage prospects as well as indirectly via financial markets,” the survey said.
“While now small, the influence of the global economy is certain to rise in the future and prompt widespread adjustments by consumers and policy makers.”
