Permanent job placements in the UK increased at the fastest pace in eight months in April amid tight candidate availability, the Report on Jobs compiled by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG showed Friday.
The number of people placed in permanent jobs rose further in April and the rate of expansion quickened to an eight-month high. This reflected a stronger increase in demand for staff.
At the same time, staffing level of temporary and contract staff increased at the slowest pace in six months in April.
Considering the regional and sector variation, London based consultancies showed sharpest growth of permanent placements, while the slowest expansion was seen in Midlands.
The shortage of permanent candidates remained marked in April, with the rate of contraction accelerating to the sharpest in five months. Temporary employee availability also dropped at a marked pace.
“The availability of staff has been falling for two years, with 40 percent of recruiters saying that the situation is getting worse month on month,” Kevin Green, REC chief executive, said.
“Our new government needs to get to grips with this crisis by improving vocational education, providing quality careers advice for all, and ensuring a sensible approach to immigration to help business find the skills they need to compete and win.”
