British trade deficit in goods narrowed in March from the previous month, but was larger-than-expected and the measure widened in the first quarter, posing a challenge for the next government. The visible trade gap narrowed to GBP 10.1 billion from GBP 10.8 billion in February. Economists had expected a smaller shortfall of GBP 9.8 billion. A year ago, the deficit was GBP 8.3 billion.
