Ultra Rare 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster To Auction
Bonhams announced the sale of a ultra rare and desirable 1998 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster at its upcoming sale. The radical homologated GT1 car will be offered at auction at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK on 26 June.
The Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is a remnant from 1 of the most exciting eras in high-level endurance racing. In the early 1990’s, FIA regulations forced manufacturers to create 25 examples of any car they wanted to compete in the top-tier GT1 class.
Powered by the 6.9-liter V-12 engine, the CLK GTR visually appears a track predator not a Sunday driver. With 604 hp and 572 lb-ft on tap from the mill, the CLK GTR can run to 60 in just 3.8 secs.
Two additional higher-performance Super Sport variants were created, utilizing a 7.3-liter V-12, delivered 655 hp and 580 lb-ft of torque.
Power for all CLK GTR variants was routed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed sequential paddle-shifted transmission.
After the initial 20 CLK GTRs were created, AMG’s internal H.W.A specialist group began the process for creating the 6 Roadster units from existing CLK GTR coupes, or spare chassis.
The Roadster utilizes a different rear wing and grille, and the chassis was stiffened with 2 integrated roll bars above the passengers’ heads.
This particular 1998 CLK GTR Roadster up for sale is estimated to hammer for between $2.1 and $2.8-M.
Look for this road-legal HyperSuperCar to cross the auction block on 26 June at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Stay tuned…
