According to Associated Press, Hillary Clinton has managed to secure 2,383 delegates, required for the outright nomination of Democratic Party. According to the latest figures available, Bernie Sanders have 1,569 delegates. Clinton won Puerto Rico primary, which gave her adequate number of delegates to reach the magic number.
Since Democratic primaries award delegates in proportion, she was anyhow, expected to reach the nomination. However if we exclude the super-delegates, who are free to vote, whoever they choose, Hillary Clinton has 1,812 delegates, just 291 delegates, ahead of Bernie.
The second runner, Bernie Sanders has vowed to fight till the very end. His camp said it is not fair to count the super-delegates, ahead of the convention. His camp said it would try and pursue many super-delegates to vote for Sanders and he is a stronger candidate against Donald Trump.
If Bernie wins a big chunk of pledged delegates in today’s primaries, especially in California and New Mexico and takes a lead over Clinton, in terms of pledged delegates, party establishment will be forced to rethink its position and consider Sanders as the nominee.
