Japan housing starts data for August is due at 1:00 am ET Wednesday. Housing starts are likely to rise 7.6 percent annually, faster than the 7.4 percent increase in the previous month.
Ahead of the data, the yen held steady against its major rivals.
As of 12:55 am ET, the yen was trading at 134.92 against the euro, 181.82 against the pound, 119.87 against the U.S. dollar and 123.42 against the Swiss franc.
