The Commerce Department is scheduled to release its advance estimate of fourth quarter U.S. GDP at 8:30 am ET Friday. Economists expect a slowdown in the sequential pace of growth to 0.8 percent.

The greenback showed mixed trading against its major rivals ahead of the data.
While the greenback held steady against the euro and the yen, it rose against the pound and the franc.

The greenback was worth 1.0908 against the euro, 1.4284 against the pound, 121.06 against the yen and 1.0203 against the franc as of 8:25 am ET.
