Finland’s foreign trade deficit decreased in March from a year ago, as exports grew faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Finnish Customs showed Friday.

The trade deficit narrowed to EUR 95 million in March from EUR 225 million in the same month of the previous year. In February, the shortfall was EUR 222 million.

Exports grew 5.0 percent year-over-year in March and imports increased by 2.0 percent.

Shipments to EU member states advanced by 3.0 percent and exports to non-EU countries grew by eight percent.

In the first quarter of this year, total trade deficit of the country was EUR 675 million versus EUR 895 million in the corresponding period last year.
