Hungary’s industrial production growth accelerated unexpectedly in March, after easing in the previous month, preliminary figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Thursday.

Industrial production surged a working-day-adjusted 9.0 percent year-over-year in March, faster than February’s 6.0 percent climb. Economists had expected the growth to ease to 5.2 percent.

Without adjustment, industrial production also expanded 11.6 percent in March from the previous year, following a 6.0 percent increase in the prior month.

On a monthly basis, industrial production rose a seasonally and working-day-adjusted 2.6 percent in March, in contrast to a 0.7 percent decrease in the preceding month.

In the first quarter of this year, total industrial output advanced 8.0 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.
