Hungary’s unemployment rate held steady in the three months ended November, defying economists’ expectations for an increase, figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Thursday.

The jobless rate came in at 6.2 percent in the October to December period, the same rate as in the previous three-month period. It was expected to rise slightly to 6.3 percent.

The number of unemployed people decreased from 283,800 in the three-month period to November to 280,700. A year ago,the jobless figure totaled 318,500.

The unemployment rate of the 15 to 24 age group dropped by 3.0 percent from a year earlier to 15.3 percent in the December quarter.

In the whole year 2015, the unemployment rate fell by 0.9 percent point to 6.8 percent compared to the preceding year.
