Italy’s consumer price inflation held steady for the second straight month in August as initially estimated, latest figures from the statistical office Istat showed Monday

The consumer price index rose 0.2 percent year-over-year in August, confirming the flash data, the same rate of increase as in the previous two months. Moreover, it was the fourth successive monthly rise.

Meanwhile, excluding unprocessed food and energy prices, core inflation eased slightly to 0.7 percent in August from 0.8 percent in July. The figure was also matched with consensus estimate.

Month-on-month, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent in August, in line with preliminary data, reversing a 0.1 percent drop in the prior month.

The EU Measure of inflation, or HICP, climbed at a faster pace of 0.4 percent annually in August, revised down from 0.5 percent rise reported earlier, following a 0.3 percent hike in July. It was the fourth successive monthly increase.

On a monthly basis, the HICP edged down 0.1 percent in August, revised from the flat reading initially estimated. In July, prices had fallen 2.0 percent.
