Lithuania’s foreign trade deficit decreased markedly in January from a year ago, as exports rose and imports plunged, preliminary figures from the Department of Statistics showed Thursday.
The trade deficit fell to EUR 10.3 million in January from EUR 155.9 million in the corresponding month last year. In December, the shortfall was EUR 210.5 million.
Exports climbed 2.0 percent year-over-year in January, while imports declined by 6.8 percent. The annual growth in exports was due to an increase in grain, oil products, electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof.
On a monthly basis, both exports and imports tumbled by 16.7 percent and 24.5 percent, respectively at the beginning of the year.
