Mexico’s retail sales grew for the fourth consecutive month in August and the pace of growth exceeded economists’ expectations, figures from the statistical office INEGI showed Wednesday.

Retail sales rose a seasonally adjusted 1.5 percent from July, when they grew 0.6 percent. Economists had forecast a 0.5 percent increase.

Year-on-year, retail sales increased 6.4 percent annually following 5.8 percent gain in the previous month. Economists were looking for 4.8 percent growth.
