At an all-party meeting conveyed ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament beginning from Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged the opposition parties to let the House function smoothly to push the GST Bill through the Rajya Sabha or Upper House, where BJP is in a minority.

Modi said that Parliament should run constructively and fulfill the expectations of the people.

The meeting of leaders from all political parties was attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Left’s Sitaram Yechury, among others.

The Finance Minister will speak to parties concerned to address their doubts on the GST legislation, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said after the meeting. He also said that the priority of the government was ease of doing business and economic reforms and they were ready to debate on the issue of intolerance.

“We are looking for some legal reforms whether it is GST or real estate bill. We are ready to debate any issue, including intolerance, but we will look to take forward the main objective of the GST Bill,” said Naidu.

The GST Bill, if passed soon, will create a single market in India for the first time since independence and is expected to boost the economy. The government aims at rolling out the new regime from April 1.
