Slovakia’s foreign trade surplus decreased notably in July from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, figures from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Tuesday.

The foreign trade surplus shrank to EUR 268.8 million in July from EUR 414.7 million in the corresponding month last year. In June, the surplus was EUR 449.2 million.

Exports grew 8.8 percent year-over-year in July, though slower than previous month’s 12.5 percent climb.

At the same time, imports rose at a slower pace of 12.1 percent annually in July, following a 15.0 percent hike in the preceding month.
