Consumer prices were up 1.3 percent on year in December, Statistics Korea said on Thursday – staying at or above 1.0 percent for the second straight month after 10 consecutive months below it.

The headline figure exceeded forecasts for 1.1 percent and was up from 1.0 percent in November.

On a monthly basis, inflation added 0.3 percent versus expectations for a flat reading following the 0.1 percent decline in the previous month.

Core inflation, which excludes the volatile costs of food, added 0.2 percent on month and 2.8 percent on year. That’s up from 0.1 percent on month and 2.4 percent on year in the previous month.
