Sweden’s retail sales growth accelerated at a faster-than-expected pace in September, after easing sharply in the previous month, figures from Statistics Sweden showed Thursday.
Retail sales grew a working-day-adjusted 3.7 percent year-over-year in September, surpassing economists’ expectations for a 3.0 percent climb. In August, sales had risen 1.8 percent.
Sales of durable goods increased 5.7 percent annually in September and that for consumables went up by 1.1 percent.
On a monthly basis, retail sales rose a seasonally adjusted 0.7 percent in September, reversing a 0.8 percent decrease in August. Economists had expected a 1.3 percent drop for the month.
In the three months ended September, total retail sales inched up 0.3 percent compared with the previous three months.
