Permanent job placements in the U.K. increased at the slowest pace in two-and-a-half years in September, the Report on Jobs compiled by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG showed Thursday.

The number of people placed in permanent jobs continued to increase in September, but the rate of expansion eased to a two-and-a-half year low.

Similarly, temporary and contract staff billings increased at the weakest pace in the current 29-month period of growth.

The availability of staff for permanent jobs dropped further in September. Moreover, the rate of decline eased to the slowest in three months.

Although overall demand for staff continued to increase in September, the rate of growth eased to a 26-month low.

Considering the regional and sector variation, the strongest rise in permanent placements was recorded by Midlands-based consultancies, while the only decline was signalled by those based in London.
