FXStreet (Mumbai) – The stock markets in the US advanced on Monday on Merger and Acquisition new. The DJIA and S&P 500 advanced, while Nasdaq traded moderately weak.

At the time of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) was up 0.70% or 130 points. The S&P 500 was up 0.46% or 9 points. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq index was down 0.20%.

Shares of Dow Chemical and DuPont both jumped more than 10% on news that the two chemical giants are expected to announce a merger.

The DJIA Oil and Gas index advanced more than 2%, tracking the recovery in the oil prices. Shares in Chevron and Exxon Mobil gained 3.2% and 2.4% respectively. Meanwhile, the losing side included shares in Apple; down 0.87%.
