Nomura Holdings inc. plans to invest approximately $1 billion to purchase about 40% of shares in American Century Investments.

According to Nikkei newspaper, citing sources privy to the matter, the planned investment will be the largest since the global financial crisis for Japan’s biggest brokerage. The newspaper said the acquisition will be from Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which will occur in the first half of 2016.

Nomura spokesperson Kenji Yamashita refused to comment. The American Century Investments or CIBC did not immediately give a comment.
